Duration of Contract: Fixed term for 36 months.

This role may be eligible for ICR Sponsorship. Support will be provided for costs associated with Visa application. If you are considering relocating to the UK, further information can be found here.

We are seeking a highly motivated bioinformatics researcher to apply and develop computational approaches for investigating subclonal architecture and plasticity in treatment-resistant breast cancers. This position is based in the ICR-CTSU Integrative Genomics Analysis in Trials Group led by Dr Maggie Cheang.

The successful candidate will employ computational approaches to meaningfully integrate single-cell assays encompassing RNA, T/B cell repertoire, and spatial genomics to identify mechanisms of treatment resistance and therapeutic candidates. Experience in the multimodal analysis of big data, statistical modelling of datasets produced both in-house and by collaboration, and data visualization methods tailored for each analysis modality are essential.

A working understanding of machine learning (ML), deep learning (DL), computer vision, and current computational methods in image analysis is desirable. This position offers valuable experience in discovery science within clinical trials and developing next-generation biomarkers at a leading global cancer research institution.

The project provides experience in data science, such as statistical modelling and single-cell multi-omics, while exploring novel molecular biomarkers of aggressive breast cancers. Opportunities include optimizing and extending existing computational pipelines for pre-processing large datasets in cancer trials (genomics, single-cell, and spatial technologies). The successful candidate is expected to collaborate closely with wet-lab scientists and contribute to research publications.

Key Requirements:

  • Applicants should hold an MSc in computational/numerical subjects.
  • Programming and scripting experience are required.
  • Basic knowledge of biology is necessary.
  • Experience in the analysis and interpretation of single-cell assays is highly valuable.
  • A PhD in computational or numerical subjects is desirable.

Department/Directorate Information:

ICR-CTSU manages a portfolio of national and international phase II and III clinical trials and expanding early-phase trials. The Integrative Genomic Analysis in Clinical Trials team, led by Dr Maggie Cheang, includes statistical, computational, and translational scientists analyzing large datasets from clinical trial biospecimens to study tumour biology.

We encourage all applicants to access the attached job pack for more detailed information.

This is an office-based role. Requests for hybrid working (split between Sutton site and home) may be considered after key training is completed, depending on role requirements. Flexible working options may also be available.

For queries about the recruitment process, contact ICR-CTSU at ctsu@icr.ac.uk. For informal discussion about the role, contact Dr Maggie Cheang at maggie.cheang@icr.ac.uk.
