Job Title: Biodiversity Net Gain Delivery Lead
Location: Falmer (Brighton) Hybrid working (2 days a week office/site)
Salary: up to £60,000 depending on experience
Job Summary:
Working within the Enabling Team in Capital Delivery, this role will lead the delivery of BNG on Capital (and other) projects, ensuring that we can continue to deliver necessary water and wastewater infrastructure in the short and long term while complying with our requirements under the Environment Act regarding BNG. The role will ensure strategic alignment with the emerging corporate Environment Strategy and will assist the BNG Strategy Lead in implementing the long term strategic approach to Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG).
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure biodiversity net gain is delivered across development projects by undertaking appropriate assessments and securing suitable mitigation or enhancement measures.
- Provide specialist advice to project managers and other stakeholders regarding biodiversity issues associated with development proposals.
- Assess the potential impacts of development on protected species and habitats, and identify appropriate measures to avoid or minimise those impacts.
- Identify opportunities for habitat creation and restoration, and lead on their delivery.
- Monitor the progress of development projects to ensure that biodiversity net gain targets are being met.
- Maintain records of biodiversity assessments and mitigation measures in accordance with relevant legislation and company policy.
- Liaise with statutory conservation bodies (e.g., Natural England) and other organisations regarding biodiversity issues associated with development proposals.
Qualifications:
- A degree level qualification in a relevant subject such as biology, ecology, geography or environmental science would be beneficial but not essential.
- A good knowledge and understanding of UK biodiversity and conservation legislation.
- Experience of working with protected species and habitats.
- Experience of carrying out habitat surveys and assessments.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work independently and take responsibility for own workload.
- Strong IT skills, particularly Excel and Word.
- Excellent organisation skills and attention to detail.
- A full driving licence is required for this role.
