You'll be responsible for:

  • Lead the development of delivery of BNG Plans across programme to drive 10% BNG. This includes agreeing project outcomes and ensuring their delivery by the project team.
  • Be a technical expert and promote innovation in the area of biodiversity.
  • At the same time this person should be a pro-active generalist, able to cover all major issues of sustainability with all relevant stakeholders.
  • Support work winning through bid support, innovation, client liaison, and external profile-raising of Mace/Mace services.
  • Monitor, assure, manage and update the requirements of the BNG Plan, including the biodiversity management process, performance measures, and KPIs.
  • Implement assurance to the latest DEFRA standards on biodiversity net gain.
  • Support and lead stakeholder engagement for biodiversity offsets opportunities in conjunction with delivery partners, communications teams, sponsors, local authorities, and special interest groups.
  • Work collaboratively with technical authorities to share knowledge on biodiversity management.
  • Support the delivery and update of the sustainability strategy document.
  • Support environmental and social appraisals (ESA) for the programme if required.
  • Embed sustainability requirements and relevant standards with delivery partners.
  • Identify and celebrate sustainability best practices and successes.
  • Coordinate regular biodiversity reporting and Power BI reporting.
  • Chair periodic biodiversity forums with delivery partners to drive performance on delivering BNG.
  • Undertake biodiversity assurance activities when required.
  • Support enhanced environment steering groups, reporting into periodic performance reviews to engage partners in biodiversity opportunities and management.
  • Manage correct reporting of biodiversity data with DEFRA's latest methodology.
  • Advise on biodiversity offset options and likely impacts for programme-wide interventions.
  • Develop and deliver training across the programme as required.
  • Carry out extended Phase 1 habitat/UKHab surveys on sites, and BREEAM reports for key clients.
  • Participate in early design layout workshops, applying mitigation hierarchy principles.
  • Support colleagues with the commissioning of ecology surveys, including preparing technical scopes for sub-consultants.
  • Provide land management advice, habitat restoration advice, and oversee habitat creation projects.
  • Conduct biodiversity net gain assessments, including the use of biodiversity metrics and design and delivery of net gain solutions.
  • Perform GIS mapping.
  • Write and carry out technical assurance reviews of ecology reports.
  • Advise clients on delivering their strategic ecology priorities, including writing policies and developing portfolio/estate-wide strategies.
  • Work with project teams to deliver best practices in protecting and enhancing ecology.
  • Support work-winning through bids, solutioning, client liaison, and raising the company's profile externally.

You’ll need to have:

  • Degree in Ecology, Conservation, or related subject.
  • Chartership (or actively working towards Chartership) with the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM).
  • Practical experience in the following sectors would be beneficial: Infrastructure (e.g., rail or highways).
