Job summary

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde invites applications for a Medical Laboratory Assistant – Biochemistry, North Sector at Glasgow Royal Infirmary. You will perform pre-analytical sample preparation and handle the sample reception, ensuring accurate registration on the Laboratory Information System and documentation.

You will support Biomedical Scientists, manage sample storage and waste disposal, and respond to enquiries to help deliver a smooth laboratory service.

Qualifications

• Three Highers at Grade C or above, including Chemistry or Biology together with Mathematics.
• SVQ Level 3
• Completion of a modern apprenticeship in life sciences
• Completion of equivalent accredited education or learning.

Responsibilities

• Pre-analytical preparation and processing of samples, ensuring patient‑related information is accurately registered on the Laboratory Information System or other manual systems.
• Maintain accurate sample identification and documentation, ensure safe storage of specimens and disposal of clinical and confidential waste.
• Provide assistance to Biomedical Scientists and support the operation of the sample reception area to ensure smooth delivery of the laboratory service.

Education
