Job description

Job Title: Biobank Histopathology Scientist (12 Month Secondment or Fixed Term Contract), Cambridge

This role involves supporting the UK Biobank by establishing capabilities for sectioning, staining, and scanning Human Biological Samples (HBS). The scientist will collaborate with internal teams to ensure compliance with global standards and regulations, maintain HBS inventory, and support histology techniques.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Supporting daily histology operations and maintaining laboratory equipment.
  2. Providing technical support for histological procedures.
  3. Managing archiving and electronic records for study materials.
  4. Ensuring compliance with SOPs, GCP, and legal requirements (HTA).
  5. Communicating with partners and managing projects using informatics systems.
  6. Responding to user queries and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
  7. Handling sample transportation and maintaining laboratory records.
  8. Assisting in local LIMS tracking and ensuring equipment upkeep.

Minimum requirements:

  • Degree in a scientific field (BSc/MSc) or equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency in Microtomy and routine histological techniques.
  • Excellent attention to detail and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of HTA regulations and IT systems.
  • Experience in project management and continuous improvement.
