The BIM Director is responsible for leading the development and implementation of BIM strategy across the organization. This position will drive innovation in design and construction processes through BIM technologies, coordinate multidisciplinary teams, and ensure the organization maximizes the benefits of BIM methodologies.
The BIM Director’s role is to understand and communicate how BIM will affect project workflows, deliverables, and project management throughout KZC. The primary responsibility is to manage and coordinate BIM standards development, implementation, and enforcement on all related BIM projects, files, and models, for both our Commercial and Industrial groups. This will include the development of a work plan/roadmap for the development, implementation, and quality assurance checks needed for full BIM integration with KZC projects. Also involved in reviewing and compiling documentation for the design of internal spaces, including demolition, structural alterations if needed, furnishings, fixtures and fittings, lighting, and general design documents.
The BIM Director prepares and executes all documentation and drawings overseeing these aspects of the project from beginning to end. Review BEP and provide comments enhancing the process. Ensures successful project completion of BIM deliverables that are timely and accurate and drive operational efficiency. Collaborate and coordinate with other consultants’ BIM requirements.
Must successfully deliver projects from the Concept to the Completion stage. Comprehensive experience in Hospitality projects. Experienced in implementing interiors and working details from LOD 100 – LOD 400.
Job Responsibilities
The BIM Director will plan and organize the design drawings for the project’s interiors. Projects may include, but are not limited to:
- hospitality (hotels and F&B)
- private residences and residential developments
- office spaces
- retail locations, e.g. malls, shops, cafes, forecourts
Strategic Leadership:
- Develop and execute a comprehensive BIM strategy that aligns with the company's business objectives.
- Lead BIM initiatives that improve the efficiency and quality of design and construction processes.
- Support project start-up coordination, helping teams develop strategies for effectively delivering quality documents and setting up each project, ensuring that each one is set up correctly.
- Prepare and lead deployment strategies for the BIM implementation effort and resource schedules and monitor the performance of internal/external BIM teams. Includes preparing weekly schedules/workflow, BIM forecasting for existing and upcoming projects minimum of up to 6 months, and reviewing them for compliance.
- Review the existing BIM standard to prepare amendments as necessary and prepare the SOP for workflow.
- Review and assess BIM staff performance and prepare review letters, including probationary reviews of the BIM team.
- Follow thru the recruitment process for any BIM hirings and conduct interviews as necessary
- Assists in raising the organization’s BIM profile for future Business development initiatives
BIM Management:
- Responsible for developing, implementing, and enforcing BIM standards, workflows, and best practices and ensures the company is efficient and effective in its BIM delivery of projects.
- Ensure project teams properly utilize BIM tools and technologies throughout all project phases.
- Support each project team by managing and creating content library files and templates, creating and enforcing standards, and evaluating project models as necessary.
- Assess: Evaluate the firm’s current workflow, strategies, budgets, projects, staffing, etc. for any upcoming BIM projects part of BD or part of projects.
- Plan: Create an implementation plan (identify team members, what the project is, what the goals are, etc.)
- Manages the 3D BIM models and reviews model quality and technical content, including clash detection and compliance with the BIM execution plan.
- Surveying buildings and attending sites to ensure all details and existing conditions are captured if necessary.
- Works closely with quantity surveyors to establish costs and work schedules on projects as required.
- Works with architects and other design professionals to determine the best-detailed solutions working with manufacturers and contractors to determine the most appropriate details for the project.
- Developing initial MIDP list for the projects with coordination with the technical coordinator both internally and externally with sub-consultants
- Supervise Modelling activities and Creation of BIM model components by the BIM modelers.
- Oversee responses to client reviews and queries about submitted models and packages
- Oversee the document controller responsible for managing BIM package issuances
Collaboration and Coordination:
- Facilitate collaboration between architects, engineers, contractors, internal BIM managers/coordinators, Design team and other stakeholders to integrate BIM into project delivery.
- Ensure effective communication of BIM processes and expectations across all departments.
Staff Development and Training:
- Provide leadership and guidance to the BIM team, promoting professional development and training.
- Organize and conduct training sessions for staff to enhance BIM knowledge and skills across the organization.
- Provide technical orientation/onboarding induction to new hires regarding the BIM process/standards/BIM tools and workflows.
- Upskilling other BIM team members in specific software/programs/systems/standards etc. Provide fundamental and intermediate training to KZC staff on all BIM software through a training program incorporating large groups, project teams, and individualized training methods.
Quality Control:
- Establish quality control measures to ensure BIM deliverables meet company standards and client expectations.
- Perform audits and reviews of BIM models to ensure compliance with standards and effective project outcomes.
- Ensures that BIM execution plans are produced and maintained for each project
- Auditing the project team and flagging non-compliances.
Technological Advancement:
- Stay up-to-date with emerging BIM technologies, trends, and methodologies and conduct continuing education on BIM processes and its new technologies
- Evaluate and recommend software and tools that enhance BIM capabilities and project delivery.
- Attend conferences, seminars, and workshops for BIM, bringing back best practices and disseminating the information to appropriate teams
Project Oversight:
- Provide oversight on BIM execution plans for projects, ensuring alignment with project goals and objectives.
- Monitor project schedules, budgets, and quality, identifying any issues related to BIM implementation.
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Foster relationships with clients, consultants, and other stakeholders to promote BIM services and capabilities.
- Communicate the benefits and advantages of BIM to clients and project teams.
- Working with the BD team to ensure compliance with the BIM RFP requirements and add any inclusions/exclusions related to the ID scope.
- Reports to CEO for any Revit-related matters and is the go between the outsourcing or internal team.
- Leads meetings to identify project tasks and resolve issues
- Data Management and Analysis:
- Oversee the integration of data management initiatives within BIM processes for improved decision-making.
- Analyze project performance data to identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiencies.
- Provide weekly/monthly/quarterly/annual BIM reports/presentations for management overview.
- Prepare, review, and endorse any required external services (including invoicing); prepare contracts for any parties involved in BIM, including renewal terms; monitor their performance and provide monthly reports.
- Drives the implementation of digital information plans and strategies and reports these to the management.
- Completes supply chain assessments
Other Responsibilities:
