BIM Coordinator Job Overview
A leading Tier 1 Contractor is seeking an experienced BIM Coordinator to join its digital construction team, initially working on a major hyperscale data centre project in Blyth, Northumberland.
This is an excellent opportunity for a BIM Coordinator, BIM Engineer or Revit Coordinator looking to work on one of the UK's most significant mission-critical construction projects.
Key Responsibilities of the BIM Coordinator
BIM Model Coordination
- Develop, maintain and coordinate multidisciplinary BIM models using Revit and other approved design software.
- Coordinate mechanical, electrical, CSA, architectural and specialist subcontractor models.
- Create and manage federated project models using Navisworks Manage.
- Undertake clash detection reviews and identify design coordination, access, installation and constructability issues.
- Produce clash detection reports, assign actions and monitor issues through to resolution.
- Coordinate plantrooms, electrical rooms, service corridors, containment, ductwork, pipework, equipment and structural openings.
- Ensure models achieve the required Level of Information Need at each project stage.
- Support the production of coordinated installation drawings and construction information.
BIM Information and Documentation
- Support the implementation of the project BIM Execution Plan and information management procedures.
- Assist with maintaining the Master Information Delivery Plan and relevant Task Information Delivery Plans.
- Ensure project information complies with ISO 19650 principles, naming conventions and classification requirements.
- Upload, review and manage drawings, models and technical documents within the project Common Data Environment.
- Maintain accurate model revisions, issue statuses and document registers.
- Undertake model quality checks and BIM compliance audits.
- Ensure approved design changes and responses to RFIs are incorporated into the relevant project models.
- Support the production and review of builders' work drawings, coordinated services drawings and installation layouts.
Design and Stakeholder Coordination
- Work closely with the BIM Lead, BIM Manager, Design Manager, package managers, consultants and specialist subcontractors.
- Attend BIM coordination workshops, design reviews and multidisciplinary coordination meetings.
- Present model issues clearly and assist the project team in agreeing practical technical solutions.
- Liaise with supply chain partners to ensure their BIM deliverables meet project requirements.
- Support the coordination of equipment layouts, maintenance access, replacement routes and commissioning requirements.
- Maintain clear records of design decisions, coordination actions and outstanding issues.
Construction and Site Support
- Provide BIM and digital construction support to site engineering and construction teams.
- Undertake site inspections to verify that installations are consistent with coordinated models and approved drawings.
- Assist with resolving site-based coordination and constructability issues.
- Update project models to reflect approved site changes and construction information.
- Support the use of laser scanning, point-cloud information and digital field management tools where required.
- Work with construction teams to ensure coordinated information is available in accordance with the project programme.
- Assist with construction sequencing, testing and commissioning coordination.
As-Built Information and Digital Handover
- Coordinate the development of accurate as-built BIM models and record drawings.
- Ensure final installations and approved changes are captured within the project information model.
- Support the collection and validation of asset information, COBie data and digital O&M documentation.
- Assist with delivering the final digital handover package in accordance with client requirements.
- Review supply chain as-built submissions for accuracy, completeness and compliance.
Quality and Continuous Improvement
- Follow company BIM standards, project procedures and quality management systems.
- Identify opportunities to improve BIM workflows, coordination processes and information quality.
- Contribute to the development of BIM templates, libraries, standard details and digital construction procedures.
- Promote collaboration and effective information sharing across the project team.
- Support junior BIM team members and provide technical guidance where appropriate.
- Maintain awareness of developments in BIM software, digital construction and data centre design.
Essential Qualifications and Experience of the BIM Coordinator
- Degree, HNC, HND or equivalent qualification in Building Services Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering or a related discipline.
- Minimum three years' experience in a BIM Coordinator, BIM Engineer, Revit Coordinator or similar digital construction position.
- Strong practical experience using Autodesk Revit and Navisworks Manage.
- Experience coordinating multidisciplinary mechanical, electrical, CSA or building services models.
- Knowledge of BIM coordination, clash detection and model quality assurance processes.
- Working knowledge of ISO 19650 and Common Data Environment procedures.
- Experience producing or reviewing coordinated construction drawings and installation models.
- Strong understanding of construction sequencing, access requirements and design coordination.
- Excellent communication, organisation and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively with consultants, subcontractors, engineers and site teams.
- Availability to work on site in Blyth.
- Eligibility to work in the United Kingdom.
Desirable Experience
- Previous experience working on hyperscale data centres, mission-critical facilities or technically complex construction projects.
- Mechanical, electrical or building services engineering experience.
- Experience with Autodesk Construction Cloud or BIM 360.
- Familiarity with Revizto, Solibri, Dynamo, Synchro or equivalent digital construction platforms.
- Experience using laser scanning and point-cloud information.
- Knowledge of COBie, asset information requirements and digital handover processes.
- Experience supporting 4D construction sequencing or model-based planning.
- BIM or information management certification.
- Experience working for a Tier 1 Contractor or specialist MEP contractor.
