Role Overview

We are seeking a Bid Writer to join our team and support the growth of our public sector contracts portfolio. This is a varied and fast-paced role where you’ll be responsible for crafting high-quality written content for tenders, PQQs, and proposal submissions aligned with public sector procurement frameworks

Working closely with internal teams across operations, commercial, and compliance, you’ll support bids through the full tender lifecycle, from opportunity identification and information analysis to submission, post-bid clarification, and handover. This role is critical to ensuring our bids are compliant, compelling, and ultimately successful.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review & identify potential new tender opportunities
  • Analyse tender documentation (e.g., ITTs, PQQs, RFQs) and extract key requirements and evaluation criteria
  • Write clear, persuasive, and tailored responses to bid questions across a range of technical and service-based topics
  • Liaise with subject matter experts to gather supporting information and evidence
  • Coordinate the bid process, ensuring all deadlines are met and submissions are fully compliant
  • Maintain a bid library of standard responses, case studies, accreditations, and project examples
  • Support post-submission clarifications and presentations where necessary
  • Continually monitor and improve bid writing quality and win rates through feedback and best practices

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience writing successful bids for public sector construction related contracts
  • Strong understanding of public sector procurement processes
  • Excellent writing, proofreading, and communication skills with an eye for detail
  • Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple live bids and competing deadlines
  • Confident working collaboratively and co-ordinating with technical and operational teams
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (other proposal tools would be advantageous)

Annual salary for this role is £26,000 to £40,000, dependent on experience, paid PAYE monthly, with 20 days holiday (plus bank holidays and Birthday off) with long-service holiday incentives.

This role will be office based, full time 40 hours, Monday to Friday 8:30am-5pm, with 30 minute lunch.

Flexibility towards the business needs is required.

Experience

  • £26,000 to £30,000: Entry Level, open to candidates with strong written communication skills and relevant skills, even with little to no direct bid writing experience. Demonstrated attention to detail, the ability to write clearly & persuasively is essential, as is effective time management.
  • £30,000 to £35,000: 2 to 4 years’ experience writing public sector bids, ideally within the construction, engineering, or FM sectors. Able to manage full tender submissions mostly autonomously, coordinate stakeholders, and contribute to improving content.
  • £40,000: 5+ years’ experience with a successful track record including high-value public sector bids in related industries (e.g. Engineering, M&E, HVAC, decarbonisation). Confident taking ownership of complex submissions, mentoring others, and refining bid strategy / content.
