Job description

MJ Church is a leading Civil Engineering and Earthworks contractor operating across England. We deliver projects valued between £100,000 and £60 million for public and private sector clients across diverse industries. Alongside our core construction services, we have a growing waste management business expanding across the Southwest and Wales.

Joining MJ Church offers an exciting and challenging opportunity for driven individuals seeking professional and personal growth in a dynamic, results-focused environment.

The Role

We are looking for a talented Bid Writer to join our Pre-Construction team. This opportunity has arisen due to the continued growth of the company and an increase in the volume of tenders and bids expected over the coming months.

You will play a central role in producing clear, compelling, and compliant tender submissions. Working closely with colleagues across the business, you will help shape our win themes, value propositions, and solution narratives.

This role is ideal for an experienced writer who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys collaborating with technical experts, and has a sharp eye for detail.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the development, editing, and proofing of tender responses.
  • Analysing client requirements and producing answer plans to maximise scoring.
  • Researching and gathering supporting information to strengthen submissions.
  • Working with multi-disciplinary teams to develop win strategies and ensure consistency in value propositions.
  • Producing high-quality written content, graphics, and supporting materials.
  • Applying quality assurance processes and incorporating feedback throughout the bid process.
  • Managing deadlines, leading coordination meetings, and keeping stakeholders updated.
  • Maintaining libraries of case studies, project summaries, and supporting data.
Who You Are

You are an exceptional communicator with a passion for persuasive writing and a proven track record in the construction or civil engineering sector. You have the confidence to translate complex technical information into clear, client-focused responses and the drive to meet demanding deadlines. Collaborative by nature, you thrive when working with multi-disciplinary teams and take pride in delivering high-quality outputs that help secure new work.

Key Skills

  • Proven bid writing experience (construction or technical environment desirable).
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofing skills.
  • Ability to research, analyse, and present information clearly and concisely.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Confidence in leading meetings and collaborating with senior stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Experience with Adobe products, Publisher, or Visio (advantage).
  • Familiarity with APMP, Shipley, or other bid-writing frameworks (desirable).
  • Employee Assistance Programme
  • Company pension
  • Holiday buy and sell scheme
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Opportunities to purchase tickets to events at a discounted rate
