Job description

BI Engineer
Up to £65,000 - Hybrid

Are you a BI Engineer with experience building modern data platforms using Azure Databricks and helping organisations move away from legacy data environments?

We are working with an organisation embarking on a major data transformation programme and looking for a BI Engineer to play a key role in the evolution of its analytics platform. This position will focus on developing a modern Azure-based data estate, supporting the migration from a traditional SQL environment to Azure Databricks whilst establishing scalable data products that enable trusted reporting and analytics across the business.

This is an opportunity to work on much more than dashboard development. You will be involved in designing cloud-native data solutions, building data pipelines with Python and PySpark, implementing governance through Unity Catalog and helping define best practices for the next generation of the organisation's data platform.

If you enjoy solving complex data challenges, modernising legacy environments, and building scalable platforms that support enterprise-wide analytics, this could be the ideal next step.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supporting the migration from a legacy SQL-based environment to Azure Databricks.
  • Designing and developing scalable data solutions using Databricks, Python and PySpark.
  • Building and maintaining data pipelines, transformation frameworks and curated data layers.
  • Implementing governance, security and data management best practices through Unity Catalog.
  • Developing trusted semantic models and reporting solutions that support business decision‑making.
  • Working with stakeholders to define KPI frameworks and deliver a single source of truth for reporting.
  • Contributing to data architecture decisions and promoting modern engineering standards.
Skills & Experience
  • Strong hands‑on experience with Azure Databricks.
  • Experience building data pipelines using Python and/or PySpark.
  • Understanding of Delta Lake, lakehouse architectures and modern data platform design.
  • Experience working with Unity Catalog for data governance and access management.
  • Strong SQL development and data modelling expertise.
  • Power BI experience, including semantic modelling and dashboard development.
What's On Offer?
  • Up to £65,000 salary.
  • Flexible working model
  • Opportunity to play a key role in a large-scale Databricks migration programme.
  • Ongoing professional development and certification support.
  • Chance to influence the future direction of the organisation's data platform.

Whether you are currently working as a BI Engineer, Analytics Engineer or Data Engineer, this role offers the opportunity to deepen your expertise in Azure Databricks and modern data platforms while helping to deliver a significant data transformation programme.
