Role Responsibilities
- Conduct New Premises and Category A-D food hygiene inspections
- Investigate food and Health & Safety complaints
- Carry out RIDDOR investigations
While experienced EHOs are preferred, candidates with limited experience may also be considered.
Key Skills Required
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust quickly, manage challenging situations, and de-escalate conflict
- Ability to understand, interpret, and explain legislation and procedures to improve compliance
- Strong written communication; accurately documenting activity and outcomes in correspondence and evidence
- Ability to assess risk and determine appropriate interventions to protect public safety
- Quick decision-making skills to achieve compliance and reduce risk
- Strong planning and workload management to meet targets and deadlines
- Ability to work independently in the community and escalate risk when needed
- Collaborative working with internal and external teams to achieve service objectives
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and willingness to use handheld technology in the field
Mandatory Qualifications
- Degree or Diploma in Environmental Health, or equivalent experience enabling the candidate to undertake the role
- Compliance with the Food Standards Agency competency framework (Food Law Code of Practice Guidance)
- Registration with the Environmental Health Officers Registration Board (EHORB) or CIEH
