Job description
Role Responsibilities
  • Conduct New Premises and Category A-D food hygiene inspections
  • Investigate food and Health & Safety complaints
  • Carry out RIDDOR investigations

While experienced EHOs are preferred, candidates with limited experience may also be considered.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust quickly, manage challenging situations, and de-escalate conflict
  • Ability to understand, interpret, and explain legislation and procedures to improve compliance
  • Strong written communication; accurately documenting activity and outcomes in correspondence and evidence
  • Ability to assess risk and determine appropriate interventions to protect public safety
  • Quick decision-making skills to achieve compliance and reduce risk
  • Strong planning and workload management to meet targets and deadlines
  • Ability to work independently in the community and escalate risk when needed
  • Collaborative working with internal and external teams to achieve service objectives
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and willingness to use handheld technology in the field
Mandatory Qualifications
  • Degree or Diploma in Environmental Health, or equivalent experience enabling the candidate to undertake the role
  • Compliance with the Food Standards Agency competency framework (Food Law Code of Practice Guidance)
  • Registration with the Environmental Health Officers Registration Board (EHORB) or CIEH
