I’m getting in touch to share a fantastic new opportunity for an experienced Environmental Health Practitioner to step into a leadership role as Private Sector Housing Manager with a forward-thinking local authority in Essex.

This is a permanent, full-time position (37 hours per week) offering not just responsibility but the chance to make a lasting impact on housing standards, public health, and community wellbeing.

As Private Sector Housing Manager, you will
  • Lead and inspire a skilled, motivated housing enforcement team
  • Act as the Council’s technical lead on private sector housing strategy
  • Prepare strategically for the upcoming Renters Rights Act
  • Deliver complex enforcement work (HMO licensing, civil penalties, safeguarding)
  • Improve health outcomes by tackling unsafe and unhealthy housing
  • Represent the authority at regional and strategic forums
What We’re Looking For
  • Qualified Environmental Health Practitioner (EHP) with significant post-qualification experience
  • Strong leadership skills with a proven track record of managing teams, budgets, and complex projects
  • Expertise in housing enforcement and public health-led housing
  • Confident communicator and problem-solver with a collaborative approach
