About the Role:
As our Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Asset Manager, you will oversee the end-to-end performance, commercial optimization, and operational health of utility-scale battery assets globally. You’ll collaborate closely with in-country and remote engineering, commercial, and field teams to ensure our assets deliver maximum value and uptime.
1. Asset Performance Monitoring & Reporting:
- Real-time performance tracking: Monitor SCADA and EMS data to validate system performance, cycle counts, degradation metrics, and ensure portfolio is operating against agreed KPIs.
- Performance analysis: Identify under-performing assets, diagnose root causes (e.g., voltage spreads, SoC drift) and coordinate corrective action with in-country technical and OEM teams.
- Reporting: Produce portfolio performance reports for internal stakeholders and investors, utilising big-data to make key operational decisions.
- Benchmarking: Compare asset & commercial metrics against market participants and industry standards to drive operational and commercial improvements.
2. Warranty Tracking:
- Warranty Management: Maintain a centralized register of all manufacturer and supplier warranties (cells, inverters, BMS, transformers, etc.), including start/end dates and coverage details.
- Claim management: Proactively monitor warranty periods and trigger claims for defects, performance shortfalls, or premature degradation. Manage Insurance processes where needed
- Coordination: Liaise with OEMs/O&Ms, EPC contractors, and legal to submit required documentation, schedule inspections, and oversee remediation work.
- Reporting: Provide updates on warranty status, outstanding claims.
3. Route to Market / Optimiser Contract Management:
- Market participation: Work in partnership with Route to Market providers to optimise the trading strategy of our portfolio across multiple markets and regions.
- Contract oversight: Assist in discussions relating to optimiser contracts, ensuring performance obligations (e.g., minimum dispatch volumes, availability windows) are met.
- Regulatory compliance: Stay on top of local market rule changes within country and communicate to senior stakeholder and RTM partners ensuring bidding strategies are updated accordingly.
- Invoice validation: Review vendor and contractor invoices (O&M services, RTM etc) against contract terms, work orders, and performance milestones.
- Discrepancy resolution: Investigate billing discrepancies, review and negotiate adjustments as necessary
5. Site Setup (Software/Hardware):
- Commissioning support: Oversee installation and configuration of control systems and energy management software
- Integration: Ensure seamless interfacing between on-site hardware (battery modules, inverters, transformers) and cloud-based monitoring platforms.
- Testing & validation: Review Market Compliance testing, data integrity checks, and managed cybersecurity procedures where needed.
- Handover: Develop standard operating procedures (SOPs), training materials, and run-books for handover to O&M teams.
Experience & Competencies:
- Nice to have a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy Systems, or a related field.
- Ideally 3+ years of experience managing utility-scale BESS, or similar power assets.
- Strong understanding of battery technologies (Li-ion chemistries), power electronics, and grid standards.
- Experience interacting with SCADA/EMS platforms and data-analysis tools (PowerBI, SQL, Excel).
- Demonstrated contract management and stakeholder-engagement skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication in English; proficiency in another European language is a plus.
- Analytical mindset with attention to detail and a proactive problem solver
- Collaborative team player and self-starter across commercial, technical, and field functions
- Adaptable to evolving market and regulatory environments
