Job summary

Morgan Jones Recruitment is seeking a Bench Operative for a permanent role in Sittingbourne, Kent. You will perform finishing, assembly and workshop operations on sheet metal components, ensuring products meet customer specifications while maintaining a safe and organised workspace.

The ideal candidate has good practical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to read engineering drawings, using hand and power tools safely.

Qualifications

  • Hands-on finishing, assembly and workshop operations on sheet metal.
  • Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and work instructions.

  • Reliable and able to meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Deburring, dressing, drilling, tapping, countersinking, reaming, tube bending, and sawing.
  • Assemble sheet metal components using hand and power tools.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings and work instructions.
  • Inspect completed work to ensure quality standards.
  • Report quality concerns or equipment issues to the Team Leader.
  • Complete work to agreed production schedules and targets.
  • Follow all Health & Safety procedures and PPE requirements.
  • Maintain a clean and organised workspace.
  • Support other areas of production when required.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Bench Operative Location: Sittingbourne, Kent

Contract: Permanent

Hours: Monday–Thursday, 6:00am – 2:15pm

Pay: £12.71 – £14.00 per hour (DOE) plus overtime paid at 1.5x

About the Role

Our Client is a growing UK manufacturing business seeking a reliable and motivated Bench Operative to join their production team in Sittingbourne. This hands‑on role is ideal for someone who enjoys practical work, takes pride in quality, and likes being part of a team-focused manufacturing environment. You will be responsible for carrying out finishing, assembly, and workshop operations on sheet metal components, ensuring products meet customer specifications while maintaining a safe and organised workspace.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out deburring, dressing, drilling, tapping, countersinking, reaming, tube bending, and sawing.
  • Assemble sheet metal components using hand and power tools.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings and work instructions.
