BEL Engineering works primarily in the defence, nuclear, renewables and oil and gas sectors and operates from an advanced manufacturing facility based in Walker, Newcastle upon Tyne.
As a Project Quality Engineer, you’ll identify and coordinate quality requirements for customer projects, from the RFQ and contract review stages through to product release. You’ll prepare and maintain project quality documentation, such as inspection and test plans, FMEAs and control plans, and coordinate its submission, approval and communication with customers, suppliers and internal teams. Working closely with Project Managers, you’ll track quality deliverables, approvals, risks and issues, support customer and supplier meetings and witness activities, and help ensure suppliers understand and meet BEL’s quality requirements. You’ll also contribute to audits, the maintenance and improvement of the Quality Management System, corrective actions, lessons learned and continuous improvement, while keeping up to date with relevant quality standards and procedures.
We’re looking for someone with extensive knowledge of quality processes and demonstrable experience in a similar role within subcontract manufacturing, ideally in a machine-shop environment. You’ll be confident reading and interpreting engineering drawings, working accurately with metric and imperial measurements, and dealing directly with customers and suppliers on quality matters. Experience in sectors such as aerospace, civil nuclear or defence would be valuable. You’ll bring strong communication, analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to adapt, manage deadlines and deliver quality‑related work to plan. A relevant engineering apprenticeship certificate and an engineering HNC or NVQ Level 4 are required. A full UK driving licence is also required, as the role involves occasional travel to customer and supplier sites.
Successful candidates will be required to undergo BPSS clearance as part of the onboarding process.
