Behavioural Support Teaching Assistant – Location: Newport Area

We are looking for a caring and dedicated Behavioural Support Teaching Assistant to join our friendly team in the Newport area. This is a rewarding role for someone who wants to make a real difference by supporting pupils to overcome behavioural challenges and build their emotional and social development within a school setting.

As a Behavioural Support Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in helping pupils with a range of behavioural needs. You’ll be working closely with teachers, ALNCOs (Additional Learning Needs Coordinators), and other school staff to provide personalised strategies and interventions that encourage positive behaviour, greater confidence, and improved engagement in learning.

Responsibilities
  • Support pupils with behavioural and emotional needs in the classroom

  • Use effective strategies to encourage positive behaviour and manage challenges

  • Contribute to a safe, welcoming, and inclusive school environment

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support where needed

  • Build strong relationships with pupils to help them develop confidence and resilience

  • Promote a respectful school culture where every pupil feels valued

Ideal Candidate
  • Experience working with children or young people, ideally in behavioural support or special educational needs

  • A patient and compassionate approach, with a genuine interest in helping pupils succeed

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Able to work effectively as part of a team, responding well to guidance and feedback

  • Proactive, adaptable, and solution-focused

  • Relevant qualifications (desirable but not essential)

  • Welsh speaking ability (desirable but not essential)
