A Special School in Lewisham is seeking a Behavioural Assistant to support students aged 5-16 with Social Emotional and Mental Health needs. The role requires literacy and numeracy at GCSE level and experience with SEMH/SEND pupils. Responsibilities include engaging students to enhance their learning and life opportunities. This is a temporary contract, 33.75 hours per week, with a salary range at Scale 5, Points 13-15.

Overview

New Woodlands is a Special School in Lewisham for students (5-16 years) with Social Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH), Special Educational Needs (SEND) and/or challenging behaviour. We cater for students aged 5-16 years and are looking for an outstanding Behavioural Assistant. All candidates must have experience working with pupils with SEMH/SEND. This is a really exciting opportunity if you are full of drive, enthusiasm and energy. You must be literate and numerate to at least GCSE level.

Role Details

Behavioural Assistant

  • Closing Date: 10th October 2025

  • Salary range: Scale 5, Points 13-15
  • Temporary Contract
  • TTO = 39 weeks
  • 33.75 hours per week, 08:30-16:00
Responsibilities
  • Engage with pupils with SEMH/SEND and support their learning and life opportunities.
Requirements and Employment Conditions
  • Error-free literacy and numeracy to GCSE level.
  • Experience working with pupils with SEMH/SEND.
  • DBS check will be undertaken; safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people are requirements.
  • Original evidence of right to work in the United Kingdom (National Insurance Number, Work Permits or Indefinite Leave to Remain) will be required prior to commencement.
  • We are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974; the successful candidate will be required to undertake a criminal record check via the DBS, as well as qualifications and reference checks.
