Job Description:
The purpose of this role is to provide targeted, bespoke support to disabled children and their families, especially where there is a risk of family breakdown due to behaviours of concern. This is a 1-year contract working as part of the Empowering Families and Networks in Enfield project. The Behaviour Support Practitioner will:
- Work flexibly between 8am – 11pm, Monday to Sunday, on a rota basis.
- Provide high-quality, safe care and support to children and young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder, learning disabilities, behaviours of concern, or mental health crises, using a Positive Behaviour Support framework.
- Support children in various settings including home, centre, or community to give parents a break.
- Work with parents, carers, and schools to embed strategies that promote change, build skills, and resilience.
- Offer specialist advice and support to families to prevent escalation of behaviours.
- Assist with hospital discharges, especially outside normal hours, working closely with health and social care professionals.
- Develop and implement Positive Behaviour Support plans with families, conduct risk assessments, and ensure interventions are accessible and effective.
- Promote communication skills in children using various methods to ensure they can express choices and influence their care.
- Build trusting relationships with children, young people, parents, carers, and professionals, including participation in multi-agency meetings.
- Ensure trauma-informed practice.
Skills, Experience, Knowledge & Abilities:
- Excellent spoken English for communication with the public and colleagues.
- Experience working directly with disabled children and young people with complex needs in various settings.
- Strong communication skills, including with children using diverse methods.
- Experience working collaboratively with multiple agencies and professionals.
- Organizational skills to keep accurate records and coordinate work.
- Experience in improving practice and delivering high-quality services.
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends.
- Knowledge of Positive Behaviour Support frameworks.
- Experience developing and implementing support plans.
- Proficiency in IT systems (Outlook, MS Office, electronic case management).
Qualifications & Professional Registration:
- NVQ level 3 or equivalent in childcare or health and social care (desirable).
Additional Requirements:
Enhanced DBS check required for working with children and vulnerable adults.
