Job description

Behaviour Support Assistant - Education & Training - Northampton

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of vulnerable young people? Do you want to help students overcome barriers to learning and improve their future prospects? If so, this Behaviour Support Assistant role in Northampton could be the perfect opportunity for you.

The Role:

As a Behaviour Support Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting students with special educational needs (SEN) and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) challenges. Working closely with teachers and specialist staff, you will provide tailored support to help students engage in education, develop essential life skills, and avoid pathways that could lead them into the criminal justice system.

Many of the students you support may have experienced adverse childhood experiences and face significant challenges. Your role will involve identifying their risks and needs, providing stability and encouragement, and helping them develop the confidence to succeed.

This role is an excellent opportunity for those considering careers in education, social work, probation services, youth justice, or non-profit organisations.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Supporting students with SEN and SEMH needs to improve engagement and attainment.
  2. Building strong, positive relationships with students to provide emotional and behavioural support.
  3. Working collaboratively with teachers and external professionals to implement support strategies.
  4. Identifying students' risks and needs, escalating concerns where necessary.
  5. Providing consistency and guidance to help students develop self-confidence and resilience.

Personal Qualities:

  1. Passionate about helping young people reach their full potential.
  2. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  3. Ability to build confidence and motivation in students.
  4. Approachable, empathetic, and a strong listener.
  5. Calm, resilient, and able to manage challenging situations effectively.
  6. Enthusiastic, motivated, and professional in your approach.

Requirements:

  1. All candidates must either hold or be willing to apply for an Enhanced DBS check and/or an overseas police check where necessary.
