Teaching Assistant at Special School in Oxford for children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health Difficulties

Ages 5 to 11 – ASAP Start

Fantastic opportunity for an aspiring Psychologist, Therapist, or someone interested in working in the Criminal Justice system.

A small specialist school in Oxford for children aged 5 to 11 is looking for a Teaching Assistant to support students' social skills, emotional wellbeing, and mental health. The school provides alternative education for children facing social & emotional difficulties such as anxiety and school refusal due to developmental trauma and adverse childhood experiences, as well as specific learning difficulties like dyslexia and dyscalculia. The Teaching Assistant/Mental Health Support Assistant will work closely with trained professionals, including Psychologists and Therapists, with opportunities to shadow their work.

  • Start: ASAP
  • Role: Behaviour Mentor and Teaching Assistant
  • Location: Oxford
  • Pay: £90-£100 per day
  • Approach: Restorative Practice
  • Additional: Shadow Psychologists and Therapists

The role involves supporting children who often feel confused, have low self-esteem, and are disengaged from schooling. The goal is to provide tailored education that enables and empowers them to understand that "great minds think differently," build confidence, and progress in their learning.

The school is progressive, compassionate, and values-based, with a highly skilled team passionate about their work. Your priority will be the children’s social, emotional, and mental health development.

Ideal candidates will have a degree in a related field or experience working with young people. Many children have experienced trauma and require resilience and an open mind to support their mental health challenges.
