Job description

About the role:

Horizon Teachers are looking for a dedicated and resilient Behaviour Mentor to support pupils in a specialist provision / PRU / mainstream school setting. This is a rewarding opportunity to support pupils who face significant challenges due to SEMH needs, past trauma, or difficulties that have led to exclusion from mainstream education.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to pupils displaying challenging behaviour.
  • Build strong, positive relationships and act as a consistent role model.
  • Support pupils in developing emotional regulation, resilience, and confidence.
  • Assist in implementing individual behaviour plans and de-escalation strategies.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral teams, and external agencies.


What do you need to succeed in this role?

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs, ideally in a school, PRU, or youth work setting.
  • Strong behaviour management and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Team Teach or similar behaviour training (desirable but not essential).
  • High levels of emotional intelligence, empathy, and patience.
  • A belief in second chances and a non-judgmental, inclusive mindset.
