Job summary

Tradewind Recruitment LTD. is seeking a dedicated Behaviour Mentor for a secondary school in Barking & Dagenham, East London. The role supports students with behavioural and emotional needs and starts from November 2026, working within the pastoral team on a term-time, full-time basis.

You will work 1:1 and in small groups to foster positive relationships, improve engagement, and support attendance. A calm, resilient approach and strong communication are essential for success.

Qualifications

• Previous experience working with young people in a school or youth setting.
• Experience supporting challenging behaviour is desirable.
• Calm, patient and resilient with strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Support students with behavioural, social and emotional needs.
• Work 1:1 and in small groups to provide targeted assistance.
• Help students manage behaviour and emotions and build resilience.
• Develop positive relationships and support engagement and attendance.
• Collaborate with teachers, pastoral staff and the SEN team.
• Assist in implementing individual behaviour and support plans.
• De-escalate incidents calmly and professionally.

Contract: Full-time, term-time
Salary: Competitive, depending on experience

Are you passionate about supporting young people and helping them overcome barriers to learning?

We are working with a secondary school in Barking & Dagenham that is looking for a dedicated and resilient Behaviour Mentor to join their pastoral team from November 2026.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience working with young people who can build strong relationships, manage challenging behaviour and help students develop the confidence and skills they need to succeed.

The Role

• Supporting students with behavioural, social and emotional needs
• Working 1:1 and in small groups with students who require additional support
• Helping students manage their behaviour and emotions
• Developing positive and trusting relationships with students
• Supporting students to improve their engagement, attendance and attitude towards learning
• Working closely with teachers, pastoral staff and the SEN team
• Helping to implement individual behaviour and support plans
• De-escalating challenging situations calmly and professionally
• Encouraging students to develop independence, resilience and positive behaviour

The Ideal Candidate

• Previous experience working with young people, particularly within a school or youth setting
• Experience supporting challenging behaviour is highly desirable
• Calm, patient and resilient personality
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
• Confident managing challenging situations
• Able to set clear boundaries while remaining supportive and approachable
• Passionate about helping young people reach their potential
• A team player with a positive and proactive approach
