Behaviour Mentor needed for an SEMH School

Do you have a background in SEMH, SEBD, or ASD? Have you had experience with challenging behaviour? Do you have Team Teach or MAPA training? Have you covered lessons? Experience tutoring or teaching small groups?

This specialist school based in Harlesden, Brent, is looking for a special needs SEMH Learning Support Assistant with experience working with challenging children and young people. This is a specialist Alternative Provision catering for young people who have been excluded or are at risk of exclusion from mainstream schools.

The successful behaviour mentor will have the opportunity to work in this outstanding school with an international reputation in special education expertise, curriculum, and resources.

Behaviour mentors must have experience working with mental health issues and complex behaviours.

This school believes all young people should receive appropriate education in a safe, stable, and contained learning environment.

As a behaviour mentor, you will work with secondary-aged pupils who have SEMD, SEBD, or troubled behaviour. Some students are academically inclined, ranging from KS2 to KS4.

You will be supported through highly personalised individual education plans to help your students succeed.

This role starts ASAP, with interviews held after half term.

  • Behaviour mentors need excellent behaviour management skills
  • Ability to build positive relationships with young people and staff
  • Willingness to teach/cover a range of lessons when needed
  • Good knowledge and experience working with children with SEMH within a special needs environment
  • Experience working with secondary-aged pupils
  • Collaborating with classroom teachers to define appropriate activities based on the curriculum
  • Assessing children with long or short-term learning difficulties and working with colleagues to identify individual needs
  • Liaising with other professionals, such as social workers, speech and language therapists, physiotherapists, and educational psychologists

This is a full-time, long-term position that could lead to a permanent role if successful.
