Role Description

Befriender 'Out and About' Volunteer for Person We Support

Location: Maidstone

Time Commitment: 3-4 hours per week

As a Befriender Volunteer, you’ll play an important role in the lives of those in need of companionship. We are looking for someone to support a person with sight loss to help them to get out and about. This may include going for walks, lunch, or helping them attend organized activities such as horse riding or shopping. This role is very rewarding and fun!

There will be an introductory period to help you get to know the person we support and for them to get to know you, building trust. The team at our Maidstone service is highly experienced and will support you during this period.

Skills required
  • To have a good sense of humour, love to chat, and be a good listener
  • To be punctual and reliable
  • To be kind, empathetic, and patient
  • To handle information in line with data protection and confidentiality procedures
  • To assist with sighted guide/orientation when necessary

Applicants must be over 18. To apply, click the 'apply' button below and complete the application form. Our Volunteering Team will contact you for an informal chat and next steps. A DBS check and two references are required before confirmation. Additionally, safeguarding training and role-specific training are mandatory.
