An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Patient Flow Team for a Full-time Bed Manager (Band 6 RN) who has an interest in the flow of patients within a busy acute NHS Trust.
AMS is a large CSU within St James Hospital comprising a dedicated surgical assessment unit and 12 inpatient wards. We are a regional centre for urology, colorectal, gastroenterology, upper GI, HPB, and renal services, as well as being responsible for the Leeds Liver Unit, one of a handful across the country.

The post holder will need to understand the A&E government targets and current issues affecting patient flow.
They will assist in managing bed resources efficiently within the Trust, providing a service encompassing all Directorates to ensure successful patient flow.
Good communication and organizational skills are essential. The candidate should be capable of delivering performance targets, implementing process improvements, and training and motivating staff.
The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic team member, contributing to service performance, maintaining supportive relationships, and demonstrating flexibility.
You will join an experienced team managing all acute and elective patient flow across AMS CSU, which includes 12 inpatient wards, endoscopy, and a dedicated assessment unit. This role is crucial for the safe and effective delivery of care in our specialties.
Many AMS patients are assessed and admitted through the surgical assessment unit, requiring close collaboration with JSAU.

Responsibilities include facilitating patient placements, managing emergency and urgent admissions, internal transfers, and repatriations, and analyzing bed situations to optimize patient care.
The role involves effective communication of capacity issues, contributing to team efforts, ensuring safe patient placement, and reporting to Clinical Matrons and Site Operations.
You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams, making independent decisions in a fast-paced environment, minimizing patient moves, and following infection control guidelines.
Leadership and management duties include investigating incidents, raising concerns, promoting quality improvements, and engaging with service users and carers.
Additionally, responsibilities encompass policy implementation, contributing to policy development, maintaining accurate records, supporting patient and family communication, and providing training and education.
All staff must adhere to health and safety, infection control, equality, diversity policies, and respect patient confidentiality, with mandatory training and personal development responsibilities.
This role requires a DBS check due to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975.
