Job Description:

The Firm's Business Acceptance Unit (BAU) is part of the Firm's Office of the General Counsel (OGC) Directorate with 60 team members responsible for conflict checking, client and matter onboarding, and compliance file audit.

Within BAU, the Conflicts team of 25 Assistants, Advisors, and Team Leaders undertakes conflict searches, analyzing conflict and confidential information issues in accordance with the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) Code of Conduct 2019, other regulations, policies, and procedures.

ABOUT THE TEAM

The team comprises Assistants and Advisors who process, analyze, and filter conflict searches related to the Firm's inbound client and matter instructions, working alongside the OGC to resolve complex conflict issues and other queries. They also implement and maintain Information Barriers and Insider Lists in accordance with Market Abuse Regulation (MAR) and handle general client and matter inception queries, including matter management and engagement letter maintenance.

As a BAU Conflicts Assistant, you will work closely with team members and support the Advisors, the BAU Conflicts Manager, and General Counsel and Risk Lawyers (GC&R) to resolve conflict and confidential information issues. You will advise partners and fee earners on the Firm's procedures and conflict checking obligations.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Processing and filtering conflict search results, conducting legal and commercial analysis of potential conflict and confidentiality issues, and reporting key issues to relevant parties.
  • Analyzing confidential records to assess relevance and supporting GC&R in referrals to the Conflicts Committee / Conflicts Partner.
  • Liaising with PAs, fee earners, partners, and GC&R regarding potential issues and queries.
  • Managing all queries received into the team's inbox, including creating and maintaining information barriers, processing reports, and handling ad hoc tasks, including compliance-related queries under supervision.
  • Monitoring workflow to ensure SLAs are met.
  • Compiling Management Information ('MI') statistics for stakeholders.
  • Undertaking project work related to BAU workflows, system monitoring, and controls.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Experience with conflict check processing or strong legal conflict knowledge.
  • Strong analytical and research skills, capable of handling large data volumes and deadlines.
  • Initiative, excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Service-oriented, self-starting, with experience in meeting service levels.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Adaptable and flexible.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
