As a Barclays Low Latency/FX Java Developer, you will join the Foreign Exchange (FX) Trading Technology team within Markets Technology. Your role involves developing and supporting front office applications and systems used to back the FX business globally. The systems include in-house developed and vendor applications, utilizing various technologies. The FX team comprises over 200 staff across London, Singapore, Glasgow, Prague, and Pune.

We provide a hybrid working model, combining onsite presence with remote work. Employees work at an onsite location on fixed 'anchor' days, typically at least two days a week, with arrangements discussed with the hiring manager. As we refine our hybrid approach, working patterns may evolve with reasonable notice.

What will you be doing?

1. Developing solutions for tactical and strategic business needs
2. Providing estimates for tasks including design, development, and testing
3. Proposing solutions aligned with existing system architecture
4. Analyzing situations to deliver rapid resolutions
5. Considering the impact of changes and incorporating this into estimates
6. Communicating with senior stakeholders to understand requirements and manage expectations
7. Working independently while leveraging team expertise
8. Ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and Barclays policies

What we’re looking for:

• Excellent Java programming skills, focusing on core Java
• Experience in developing low latency trading systems, with strong knowledge of concurrency, system performance tuning, and messaging
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Outstanding academic record with a numerate degree (2:1 or higher) in computer science, math, physics, engineering, or equivalent

Skills that will help you in the role:

• Exposure to front office banking
• Knowledge of KDB
• Experience in full lifecycle development of large commercial systems, especially high-frequency trading or pricing systems
• Understanding of security, encryption, and cyber threat mitigation techniques
