The Edinburgh Academy is looking for a passionate and experienced Voluntary Music Teacher to join their Pipe Band Team starting August 2025. The role involves teaching Bass and Tenor drum lessons, providing feedback on student progress, and contributing to various performances. Ideal candidates will have strong communication skills and a proven track record in music education.
The Edinburgh Academy is seeking to expand its bank of self-employed Voluntary Music Teachers (VMT) within the Pipe Band Team, specifically an experienced and enthusiastic Bass and Tenor Drum Teacher starting August 2025. The position requires a commitment of approximately one and a half days of teaching per week, potentially increasing to two full days.
We welcome applications from well-qualified music graduates with relevant teaching qualifications and/or experience, and a proven track record in teaching pupils from primary to S6. The successful candidate will be passionate about developing the Bass Drum and Tenor Drum programme at The Edinburgh Academy. Teaching locations include both the Arboretum and Henderson Row sites.
The Academy sets a minimum charge for lessons, and the VMT is responsible for paying a Facility Charge for resource use within the School. As a self-employed VMT, there is a direct relationship with parents, and the VMT will invoice parents directly for tuition fees. Opportunities may exist for group coaching and supporting school rehearsals or competitions such as CCF events, RSPBA, and Non-RSPBA competitions throughout the year, with remuneration at the applicable hourly rate.
The appointment will be subject to an interview and audition, satisfactory references, identity verification, and proof of qualifications.
The Edinburgh Academy is committed to safeguarding children and requires applicants to undergo child protection screening, including checks with past employers and PVG Disclosure Scotland.
The school is an Equal Opportunities employer and encourages applications from qualified individuals regardless of age, disability, gender, race, or sexual orientation.
For enquiries, contact the Pipe Band at atripney@edinburghacademy.org. Interviews are planned to be held between 7th and 14th August 2025.
