About the role

We are seeking a dedicated Basic Skills and English Teacher for a full-time position in Leeds, starting in September 2025. The role involves teaching English, Literacy, and Numeracy at Entry Level and Levels 1 and 2, focusing on helping learners build functional life skills in communication and everyday maths.

You'll be joining a forward-thinking and inclusive team that supports learners from a wide range of backgrounds. Requirements

  • Teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE, Cert Ed, or equivalent)
  • Level 3 or above in English and Maths
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
  • Eligibility to work in the UK.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging lessons in Entry Level to Level 2 English and Maths.
  • Teach practical literacy skills including reading, writing, speaking and listening.
  • Deliver functional numeracy (e.g. money handling, budgeting, time, measurement).
  • Develop individual learning plans based on assessment outcomes.
  • Differentiate materials to suit varied learner needs and abilities.
  • Monitor student progress through ongoing formative assessments.
  • Encourage learner independence and critical thinking.
  • Provide constructive feedback to support academic growth.
  • Collaborate with support staff and inclusion teams to meet learner needs.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training sessions and CPD opportunities.
