Job description

Old Spike is the first social enterprise in the UK championing real social and environmental change through speciality coffee. We are on a mission to eradicate homelessness in the UK and protect the planet by launching London’s first carbon and plastic neutral cafés in central London.

We are recruiting for specialty coffee baristas across our London Cafes.

Each new site will provide a London Living Wage job for the homeless and support a local homeless charity with a donation-based loyalty scheme focusing on impact.

We are now recruiting for experienced baristas who have a desire to produce exceptional coffee while contributing to social and environmental impact.

Full training will be provided, but previous experience working in a speciality café environment is required. Essential qualities include:

  • Positive and ‘can-do’ attitude
  • Friendly and polite customer service skills with excellent people skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • High attention to detail; maintaining cleanliness and tidiness
  • Ability to motivate a team and share knowledge of best practices, especially when working with homeless trainees
Coffee Experience
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in speciality coffee with a passion for coffee
  • Understanding of retail coffee sales and confidently discussing available coffees
  • Ability to dial in grinders and adjust throughout the day based on different espresso offerings
  • Knowledge of coffee machine and grinder maintenance
  • Skilled in milk texturing, brew ratios, and extraction techniques
Equipment
  • Experience working with Synesso espresso S200 or Eagle One espresso machines, Mahlkonig E65S GBW, and EK43S shop grinder
