Job description
Overview

We’re excited to launch The College Kitchen at Sandwell College - a brand new café service proudly serving Starbucks drinks to students, staff and visitors. As a Barista, you’ll be at the heart of this exciting venture, helping to create a vibrant and welcoming hub on campus. You’ll be preparing top-quality coffee and drinks, serving customers with a smile and keeping everything running smoothly day to day. This is a hands-on role where no two days are the same, from perfecting a latte to keeping the counter well-stocked and ready for the busy college rush. This is a fixed-term, hourly paid role during term time only, running until the Easter half term.

Key Responsibilities
• Prepare and serve a variety of hot and cold drinks to a consistently high standard.
• Offer a warm and friendly service to all customers.
• Take orders, handle payments and operate the till accurately.
• Keep the café clean, tidy and well-presented at all times.
• Follow all food safety and hygiene regulations.
• Assist with deliveries, stock rotation and restocking supplies.
• Support your colleagues during busy periods to ensure smooth service.
• Provide ad-hoc catering support for events and functions when required.
• Promote specials, seasonal drinks and loyalty schemes.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

To succeed in this role, you should hold GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths at Grade C/4 or above and have a good understanding of current food hygiene and health and safety requirements. Experience in catering or hospitality, combined with strong communication and interpersonal skills, will help you thrive in a fast-paced environment. While a catering qualification and experience working in an educational setting would be an advantage, they are not essential.
