Job summary

Another Place, The Machrie is seeking a Seasonal Bar and Waiting Assistant to support our bar and dining team on Islay. This part-time role offers 16 hours per week through October/November, with a friendly guest-focused environment in a remote island setting.

You’ll take orders, serve drinks and meals, handle transactions, and coordinate with kitchen and bar staff to ensure timely service. A driving licence is essential; weekend and evening shifts are required.

Qualifications

  • Experience in a bar/restaurant environment preferred.
  • Valid driving licence required.

  • Basic cash handling and math skills.

Seasonal Bar and Waiting Assistant | Another Place, The Machrie | Restaurant | Part-time, 16 hours (until November)

Offering a competitive salary, monthly tips, use of our Championship Links Golf Course, and an annual £2,598 Islay Living Allowance (paid monthly, pro-rated) for all off-site team.

Our Seasonal Bar and Waiting Assistant role:

Another Place, The Machrie - a place for people who take pride in growing their skills, supporting local suppliers, sharing seasonal menus, crafting great coffee, and maintaining excellent guest experiences.

Our Bar and Waiting team is essential for maintaining our exemplary guest satisfaction at Another Place, The Machrie. Together, we deliver exceptional dining, craft exquisite coffee, mix cocktails, and ensure that guests receive a consistently high-quality dining experience. Our team ensures that guests receive a warm welcome and are cared for, are aware of our current offerings, and enjoy every moment that they spend with us. This seasonal part-time position is offered until October, working 16 hours per week.

As our Seasonal Bar and Waiting Assistant you'll be:
  • Maintaining cleanliness and adhering to food safety standards.
  • Greeting guests warmly and providing excellent customer service throughout their dining experience.
  • Taking food and beverage orders accurately and efficiently.
  • Communicating effectively with the kitchen and bar staff to ensure timely delivery of orders.
  • Serving food and beverages to guests in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Anticipating guests' needs and responding promptly to any requests or concerns.
  • Handling cash and credit card transactions accurately and efficiently.
  • Maintaining cleanliness and organization in the dining area, including clearing tables and sanitizing surfaces.
  • Adhering to all food safety and sanitation guidelines.
You'll also be:
  • Working collaboratively with your team members to ensure smooth operation of the restaurant.
  • Complying with all licensing laws.
  • Ensuring that the guest facing and BOH areas are clean, and that Riskproof is being completed each day.
  • Promoting a positive working environment and inclusive culture within our team.
  • Promoting our shared responsibility to look after our teams and planet.

The skills you'll be sharing with us:
  • Previous experience in a similar role (preferred but not required)
  • A valid driving licence (essential)
  • A strong guest focus
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong attention to detail with organizational skills
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectivelyBasic math skills for handling cash transactions
  • A willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
  • Excellent time management and delegation skills
  • Good listening skills and a proactive, helpful attitude towards team members
  • Previous experience of island living, or equivalent (desirable)
  • Food Hygiene certificate (desirable)
