Job description

Bank Staff: Level 1 Teaching Assistant (E7451) - East SILC John Jamieson School

The East Specialist Inclusive Learning Centre (SILC) is a 2-19 generic special school with 447 learners on roll. All our learners have special learning needs, and some have physical or medical difficulties. The East SILC operates across multiple sites to provide outreach services, partnerships with primary and secondary providers, the city-wide Physical Difficulties and Medical Service, and the Medical Needs Teaching Service for Leeds.

Do you want to make a difference in learners' lives?

Are you seeking flexible work and extra income on your available days? Join East SILC as bank staff!

We are seeking Level 1 Teaching Assistants to join our bank staff team to cover staffing shortfalls, pre-arranged absences, and support needs. These casual roles involve supporting various classes and are scheduled based on your availability.

Roles may be based at our main sites—John Jamieson, Roger Cannon, Jack Clark—or at partnership sites like Temple Moor High School or The Bridge Community Centre. Our learners have diverse SEND needs, including moderate to severe learning difficulties, physical and medical needs, sensory impairments, communication challenges, social, emotional, and mental health needs, and autism.

You must:

  • Be available for full days (8:45 am - 3:30 pm) on days Monday to Friday.
  • Have enthusiasm, willingness to learn, and support for teaching, learning, and personal needs of learners.
  • Be flexible, adaptable, a good communicator, cheerful, calm, and a team player.

East SILC offers a progressive staffing structure supported by professional development, with a thorough induction and ongoing training.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All appointments are subject to a satisfactory DBS check and medical clearance from Leeds City Council’s Occupational Health Service. Candidates must complete a self-disclosure form before interview.

It is illegal to apply if you are on the children’s barred list.

East SILC values diversity and seeks a workforce reflecting Leeds’ population.

This role is based in the UK. Employment is contingent upon proof of right to work in the UK, such as UK or Irish citizenship, EU Settlement scheme status, or valid work visa. Please ensure you meet these criteria before applying.

This is not a Leeds City Council vacancy; it is advertised on behalf of the relevant organization. Please follow their application instructions to apply.
