Job summary

North Devon Hospice in the United Kingdom is seeking Bank Specialty Doctors to join a small, expert medical team delivering specialist palliative care across the region.

You will provide medical cover for the 7-bed inpatient unit, support community teams and participate in 24/7 on-call services. Full induction and shadowing opportunities are provided.

Qualifications

  • Experience in General Practice, or General Medicine, or other experience relevant to the post.
  • Full GMC Registration, with a current licence to practise
  • Meet the current entry criteria for Specialty Doctor roles.
  • Evidence of participation in annual medical appraisal
  • Membership of a recognised medical defence organisation, at a level suitable to cover hospice work.

Responsibilities

  • Providing medical management of patients in the hospice from admission to discharge or death.
  • Working as part of the multidisciplinary team to ensure care encompasses physical, emotional and psychological needs of patients and their families.
  • Creating and maintaining clear, concise and contemporaneous clinical records using electronic patient records.
  • Coordinating care across in-patient, community and outpatient settings with partner organisations.
  • Participating in hospice MDT meetings, daily capacity meetings and community case discussions.
  • Providing on-call clinical support and expert advice to colleagues on palliative care cases.

We're looking for Bank Specialty Doctors to join our small, expert medical team providing specialist palliative care across North Devon.

You'll provide medical cover for our 7-bed inpatient unit, support our community teams and contribute to our 24/7 first-on-call service. You'll have access to 24hr second on-call Palliative Medicine Consultant support. Full induction and shadowing opportunities are provided.

Job responsibilities
  • Providing medical management of patients in the hospice from admission to discharge or death
  • Working as part of the multidisciplinary team, to ensure care encompasses the physical, emotional and psychological needs of patients and their families
  • Creating and maintaining clear, accurate, concise and contemporaneous clinical records using our electronic patient record
  • Utilising other electronic and digital systems, hosted by key partner organisations, to help coordinate care between those organisations and across the system
  • Working with clinical teams to support the continuity of medical care to patients under the care of the hospice across in-patient, community and our outpatient settings
  • Fully participating in the hospice multidisciplinary team meeting, daily capacity meeting and community team case oversight discussions
  • Providing the first clinical on-call service to the Bedded Unit on a roster basisProviding expert advice to colleagues regarding specific cases and the management of palliative care issues
  • Engaging in supervision and clinical case review to support own and others practice
  • Engaging in audit and research as required, actively pursuing opportunities to promote this within the hospice
  • Driving a culture of continuous learning and evidenced based practice
  • Ensuring that good infection control practices are followed at all times and maintaining up to date knowledge of infection control policies, procedures and guidance relevant to the area of work
  • Understanding your role in the safeguarding of adults and children by being able to identify risks, and recognise signs of harm, abuse or neglect including how to report concerns and take immediate action to protect a person at risk of harm or abuse
Person Specification
Experience
  • Experience in General Practice, or General Medicine, or other experience relevant to the post
Qualifications
  • Full GMC Registration, with a current licence to practise
  • The experience and qualifications to meet the current entry criteria for Specialty Doctor roles

  • Evidence of participation in annual medical appraisal to meet requirements of revalidation
  • Membership of a recognised medical defence organisation, at a level suitable to cover hospice work
