This post is suitable for someone who has completed their competencies and would like to further develop assessment and/or intervention skills while working within a team. Bank work is on an as and when required basis and you may be based across Oxleas sites or in mainstream schools.
Responsibilities
- Provide assessment and direct intervention to school‑aged children/young people with language disorders, including Developmental Language Disorder and language disorders associated with biomedical conditions or Autism.
- Deliver provision to children with EHCPs and without.
- Provide a clinical and advisory SLT service to mainstream school‑aged children and young people with a diverse range of speech, language and communication needs, including those with complex needs (e.g., biomedical disorders and Autism).
- Offer specialist services to children and young people with language disorders across settings, with language as the primary need.
- Participate in the development and delivery of training programmes and develop information for school staff, parents/carers and colleagues in health and education.
- Develop supervision skills with junior therapists, assistants and students.
- Work as part of an integrated team with SLT assistants and SLT colleagues; participate in multi‑disciplinary work with colleagues in health, education and parents/carers.
- Contribute to service expansion and improvement within the Borough of Bexley.
Qualifications and requirements
- Evidence of clinical competence in SLT with the ability to assess and intervene in language disorders, including autism and related social, emotional and mental health needs.
- Demonstrate specialist clinical skills in assessment and intervention of language disorders; provide second opinions and supervision to other team members.
- Reflect on own clinical practice, identify strengths and development needs, and maintain a portfolio of evidence of clinical practice.
- Maintain professional registration (HCPC) and meet HCPC requirements; keep the professional portfolio up to date.
- Engage in relevant public health skills training and updates as required.
- Make differential diagnoses based on assessment evidence and, when appropriate, seek advice; ensure written reports/care plans are delivered in a timely manner to service users and appropriate agencies.
- Demonstrate high clinical effectiveness through evidence‑based practice and outcome measures; share knowledge of best evidence‑based practice with the team.
