This role is focused around spending time with our service users and as such it is a privileged role that gives you the opportunity to make a real difference to people's lives.
The role will support the multi-disciplinary team to deliver individualised care packages to a small group of service users with both mental health needs and/or a learning difficulties, who are either stepping down from low secure and locked rehabilitation placements or who are local service users requiring assessment and treatment for their enduring mental ill health. The aim of the post is to support recovery, independence, quality of life and well-being, through instilling hope and optimism in every service user so that they can reach their full potential.

Job responsibilities

- You will be expected to increase your knowledge in one of the elements of recovery above to support senior staff to deliver specific interventions.
- To provide daily updates to senior staff of individuals mood, behaviour, interaction, motivation and mental health so that plans of care can be reviewed accordingly.
- Sensitively support individuals with activities of daily living with the goal to enhance these essential living skills.
- To work without direct supervision, but with someone available to refer to, as and when required, either on or off site on a regular basis.
- Help identify early signs of relapse by monitoring the services user progress, level of functioning and mental state and alert the appropriate staff involved in the persons care.
- To support the service user to integrate into the local community to enable them to feel a sense of purpose and community.
- To maintain informative electronic records as required.
- To undertake such other duties as may be determined from time to time within the general scope of the post.
- Be able to work flexibly within the different elements of the rehabilitation pathway when required.
Code of Conduct
As a support worker you are accountable to Navigo for your conduct and you must always act in a manner to promote and safeguard the interests and well-being of service users, their families, your colleagues and Navigo.
Physical Effort
The post holder may be required to drive a motor vehicle on a daily basis and assist Service Users with practical and leisure tasks.
Emotional Effort
The post holder is expected to work with people with severe and enduring mental health needs, learning disabilities and/or other complex needs and as such may be subject to emotionally distressing situations and information.
Working Conditions
The post holder is expected to work both within the inpatient rehabilitation unit and at times within the wider rehabilitation services in the community.
Person Specification
- No qualifications required for this entry level post
- You will be required to complete medications administration training in your first 6 months and complete the care certificate within your first 2 years
- Ability to respond to the individual rights/needs/opinions of service users
- Ability to maintain a safe environment for service users/ carers/staff
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Disclosure and Barring Service Check
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
