Job description

The Acle Medical Partnership is an 8-doctor dispensing practice providing care to around 9,500 patients in and around Acle in North Norfolk. We are looking for a knowledgeable, qualified Dispenser to join our busy team to process all relevant prescriptions as authorised by the GPs and prescribing nurses where appropriate, in accordance with the principles of good practice.

The successful applicant will need a minimum NVQ Level 2 in dispensing, and knowledge of EMIS Web would be an advantage.

Main duties of the job
  1. Process all relevant prescriptions as authorised by GPs and prescribing nurses, in accordance with good practice principles.
  2. Possess previous relevant experience in primary care / GP dispensary.
  3. Remain calm under pressure.
  4. Work independently using initiative, as well as part of a team.

Job responsibilities
  1. Ensure all medicines and appliances dispensed are checked against prescriptions, and consult with the prescribing doctor if there is any doubt about appropriateness, dosage, or labelling.
  2. Collect all prescription charges and ensure the patient declaration on the FP10 is completed and signed.
  3. Handle and store all monies received on behalf of the practice appropriately.
  4. Endorse all prescription forms as appropriate.
  5. Forward invoices and dispensary correspondence to the dispensary manager promptly.
  6. Maintain efficient stock control to ensure supply continuity and minimize wastage, in line with practice policies.
  7. Store drugs appropriately according to instructions.
  8. Keep shelves and work surfaces clean to maintain hygiene, and ensure dispensary equipment is in good condition.
  9. Respond promptly to drug alert bulletins.
  10. Store refrigerated items at correct temperatures and maintain a temperature log.
  11. Maintain accurate records of dispensing transactions, using computers when available.
  12. Perform any other duties necessary to uphold high standards of dispensing service.
