The seven prisons are located across three estates, Isle of Sheppey, Rochester and Maidstone, with the Isle of Sheppey prisons being within a few minutes' walk from each other and East Sutton Park approximately 7 miles from Maidstone.

Overview

We are looking for a dedicated Pharmacy Technician to manage medicines services at the allocated prison on a daily basis, with professional support from a prison services pharmacist.

Responsibilities

1. Manage on a daily basis the Medicines Management Service at the allocated prison.
2. Oversee the ordering and supply of repeat prescriptions.
3. Utilise stock supplies and out-of-hours stocks when a patient’s own medication is not available.
4. Have accreditation as a checking technician and/or medicines optimisation.
5. Ensure high standards of work and that Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are read and adhered to.
6. Facilitate the medication supply on repeat prescriptions (using System1); this includes coordinating GPs/NMPs to generate repeat prescriptions, ensuring they are signed and given to pharmacy promptly within the Repeat Prescription management process.
7. Supervise and assist primary care staff to ensure prompt medicine administration times are adhered to.
8. Advise patients on all aspects of their medication to ensure adherence and compliance, including inhaler technique, interactions, mechanism of action/dose regimens, and side effects.
9. Ensure high standards of work in Primary Care and adherence to SOPs and Oxleas Prison Services Policies including Standards of Medicine Management, IP Policy, and Homely Remedies Policy.
10. Develop awareness/knowledge of medicines information to support adherence and compliance by using sources such as BNF, BNF-e, e-MC, and Medicines information lines.
