Overview
We are looking for a dedicated Pharmacy Technician to provide daily medicines management services to allocated prison sites, with professional support from a prison services pharmacist.
Responsibilities
- Manage on a daily basis the Medicines Management Service at allocated prison sites.
- Manage medicines administration as well as the printing and coordination of the repeat prescription process.
- Administer medicines to offenders against a valid prescription on the house blocks.
- Supervise the junior medicine management staff.
- Provide a medicines management service to the allocated prison(s) with professional support from a prison services pharmacist.
- Oversee the ordering and supply of repeat prescriptions.
- Utilise stock supplies and out-of-hours supplies when patients’ own medication is not available.
- Have accreditation as a checking technician and/or medicines optimisation (or work towards it).
- Ensure high standards of work and that Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and relevant policies are read and adhered to.
- Facilitate the medication supply on repeat prescriptions (using System1); liaise with GPs/NMPs to generate, sign, and provide repeat prescriptions promptly within the Repeat Prescription management process.
- Supervise and assist primary care staff to ensure prompt medicine administration times.
- Advise patients on all aspects of their medications to ensure adherence and compliance, including inhaler technique, interactions, mechanism of action, dosing, and side effects.
- Maintain high standards of work in Primary Care and ensure adherence to SOPs and Oxleas Prison Services Policies including Standards of Medicine Management, IP Policy, and Homely Remedies Policy.
- Develop or maintain knowledge of medicines information to support adherence and compliance using sources such as BNF, BNF-e, e-MC, and Medicines information lines.
Qualifications and Knowledge
- Accredited Checking Technician and/or Medicines Optimisation knowledge or willingness to work towards accreditation.
- Experience or ability to work within prison healthcare settings.
- Ability to advise patients on medications and adherence strategies.
- Awareness of medicines information resources and how to apply information to patient care.
