Job description

Are you a Nurse or Paramedic looking for a new direction but not ready to leave your current role? Consider our bank opportunities.

You will work alongside the Police in custody suites, caring for detainees. This role offers a career within the criminal justice system, helping some of the most vulnerable people in society.

We require Registered (Adult) Nurses / RGNs or Paramedics with at least 2 years of post-qualification experience, who are committed to delivering gold standard care and are passionate about developing clinical, forensic, and wider skills.

You must be flexible to work not only in your base custody suite but also across an assigned region within the Police Custody Suites and Force area.

What can you expect to earn? (Based on shifts per month):

  • £20.50 per hour for 1-2 shifts
  • £22.50 per hour for 3-5 shifts
  • £24.50 per hour for 6+ shifts

Essential Experience:

  • RN, RGN, or RMN with dual registration: 2 years post-qualification, Band 5 minimum
  • Paramedic: 2 years post-qualification
  • Minimum of 2 years post-qualification experience in a patient-facing role within relevant fields such as General Practice, A&E, Emergency Medicine, acute medicine, Walk-in Centres, Substance Misuse Services, Prison Healthcare, or Ambulance Service

Licence/Certification:

  • HCPC/NMC registration
  • Driving Licence
  • UK residency for 3+ years with no gaps exceeding 3 months abroad
  • All candidates will undergo Police Vetting

Role Responsibilities:

The custody suites can be energetic environments, with each shift unique. While detainees are in our care, we address their physical, mental healthcare, and wellbeing needs, and collect forensic samples to aid police investigations. You will assess detainees' fitness for detention or release, administer medications, and collaborate with local Liaison and Diversion teams to address root causes of offending, potentially preventing future crimes. No prior forensic experience is required, as training will be provided.
