Overview

Are you looking for a new opportunity? We are recruiting reliable, hardworking individuals to register for temporary staffing in Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. We are seeking Band 5 Nurses to work in a busy Paediatric Intensive Care unit (PICU) caring for children from 0 – 16 years with a wide variety of medical and surgical conditions requiring high dependency or intensive care. You will care for children and their families as part of a large multidisciplinary team. The PICU accepts admissions from CUH wards and ED, as well as from District General Hospitals in the Eastern region via the PaNDR retrieval service, and is the regional trauma centre. Previous experience in Intensive Care or High Dependency Nursing is essential, with clinical support from the PICU Senior Team on shift.

Responsibilities

The worker will be responsible for competently providing safe and effective care, without supervision, to critically ill children requiring high dependency nursing intervention (Level 1 Dependency) and care to Level 2 and 3 Dependency patients under the supervision of a registered nurse qualified in the specialty. Responsibilities include assessing care needs, planning, implementing and evaluating care programmes, and participating in the supervision and teaching of unqualified and qualified staff, including basic and/or post-basic students.

Requirements

Qualifications – First level registration RSCN/RN(Child) (part 8 or 15) or first level registration in Adult Nursing (RN) with significant paediatric experience; Child Protection training (essential).

Experience – Essential: experience delivering evidence-based nursing care without supervision to children in an acute hospital setting. Desirable: experience in high dependency or critical care areas.

Skills – Essential: ability to care for children and families safely without direct supervision; advocate of paediatric nursing. Desirable: participation in research and audit projects; advanced computer skills.

Knowledge – Essential: up-to-date paediatric nursing knowledge and awareness of professional issues. Desirable: current knowledge of research developments in paediatric nursing.
