Job summary

The post holder will carry out a complex scientific and clinical role. The main area of work will be in the
Paediatric Audiology Service with direct responsibility for diagnosis, treatment, and outcomes.
The post holder will be required to undertake diagnostic auditory electrophysiological assessment for
neonates referred from our New-born Hearing Screening Programme (NHSP) and understand national and
regional guidelines relating to this. Peer review and CPD is required and continual reflective practice is
encouraged.
There is line managerial responsibility for more junior members of the department. Cooperation with the
national Paediatric Audiology Quality Improvement Programme and working towards IQIPS accreditation
is expected.

Main duties of the job

• Perform, interpret, and communicate paediatric diagnostic audiology test results using test
techniques appropriate to the developmental age and ability of the individual and compliant with
national standards.
• Fit hearing instruments and other assistive listening technology as appropriate for the individual.
• Apply and develop evidence-based practice and use of relevant clinical protocols.
• Explanation of potentially emotive results to parents and patients.
• Communication with parents, professionals, and agencies working with the child with parental
consent.
• Communication methods should be adapted to ensure the parent / carer and patient have
optimal understanding.
• Provide specialist input to patients across the range of care pathways and health care settings.
• Provide appropriate clinical and scientific advice and interpretation of analytical results.
• Participate in regional, departmental, and multidisciplinary meetings.
• Undertake suitable training within the department to maintain the required standards of
competence when undertaking duties.
