Job summary

HCRG Care Group is seeking a Bank Paediatric Occupational Therapy Assistant to join our Therapies Team in Surrey. You will support delivery of high-quality OT services for children with developmental, physical and sensory needs, under supervision of qualified Occupational Therapists.

Role involves assessment, intervention and care planning across health centres, nurseries and schools, contributing to child- and family-centred outcomes.

Qualifications

• FdSc Health and Social Care (Associate Practitioner) qualification.
• Strong literacy and numeracy; able to record accurately.
• Ability to work under supervision and follow care plans.

Responsibilities

• Visit homes, nurseries and schools to review equipment and plans.
• Instruct carers on safe use of equipment and systems.
• Plan and lead individual and group therapeutic activities.
• Support parents and carers across multi-agency settings.
• Work independently to assess progress and adjust programmes.
• Communicate sensitively with families and professionals.

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Paediatric Occupational Therapy Assistant to join our dynamic multidisciplinary team . In this rewarding role, you will support the delivery of high-quality Occupational Therapy services for children with a wide range of developmental, physical, and sensory needs .

Working closely under the supervision of qualified Occupational Therapists, you will contribute to assessment, intervention, and ongoing care, helping children and their families to develop skills and confidence in self-management.

As an integral member of the Paediatric OT team, you will carry out both general and specialist clinical tasks, delivering delegated aspects of therapy care plans and, when appropriate, working as an autonomous practitioner. Your work will span a variety of settings, including health centres, nurseries, specialist schools, and children’s homes, where you will provide hands‑on support to aid physical management and functional development .

You will also play a key role in facilitating individual and group therapy sessions, supporting care pathways, and assisting with administrative tasks such as specialist equipment provision .

Main Responsibilities

• Under OT supervision, visit homes, nurseries and schools to review, adjust and arrange appropriate postural management and moving and handling equipment.
• Provide clear instruction to carers on safe use of equipment such as seating, bathing, toileting and sleep systems.
• Plan and deliver individual and group therapeutic activity programmes within therapist-led care frameworks .
• Support parents and carers across a range of multi-agency settings.
• Implement, demonstrate and review intervention programmes for school staff, parents and volunteers, adapting activities and providing training as needed..
• Work at times independently to assess progress, modify programmes and arrange equipment within agreed limits, reporting outcomes to the supervising therapist .
• Communicate routine, complex and sensitive information with tact, using adapted strategies to overcome communication barriers .
• Collaborate with families, carers and professionals, negotiating decisions around client care with support from senior clinicians .
• Share assessment findings and management plans with school staff, carers, families and the wider interdisciplinary team .

Ideal Candidate

• FdSc Health and Social Care (Associate Practitioner)
• Literacy and numeracy skills
• Knowledge and skills acquired through a combination of formal training, short courses, in-house training and experience to diploma level or equivalent
• Clear accurate recording and reporting skills
• Ability to use MS office applications, e-mail, Systmone
• Demonstrate ability to work under pressure and use own initiative
• Demonstrate flexible and positive approach to team working and ability to adapt to change within working situation
• Car owner/driver/access to a motor vehicle (role will involve travel to other sites that cannot be easily accessed by public transport means)
• Demonstrate practical, analytical and judgement skills in patient care relevant to care group
• Good communication skills, both written and verbal
• Motivational skills E.g. healthcoaching
• Ability to plan and lead groups
