Job summary

HCRG Care Group seeks a Bank Occupational Therapist to deliver high-quality assessment, diagnosis and intervention for children within the Children’s Community Health Team. You will work in partnership with families and other professionals to empower children to reach their full potential.

You will join a multidisciplinary team, based at Surrey hubs with hybrid working to support both professional and personal needs. There is a focus on development and community-based care.

Qualifications

• Degree/Diploma in Occupational Therapy or equivalent.
• HCPC registration is required.
• Knowledge of ASD strategies/interventions (e.g. PECS, SCERTS, ADOS).
• Post-graduate training or equivalent experience in child development and neurodevelopmental conditions.

Responsibilities

• Carry out high-quality School Based Assessments as part of an MDT.
• Assess and provide tailored advice and interventions for children with diverse needs.
• Develop and implement individualised treatment plans with families and carers.
• Recommend and support use of specialist equipment for home and school.

As a Band 5 Occupational Therapist, you will play a vital role in a multidisciplinary team, supporting children with a range of developmental and performance challenges.

You’ll work in partnership with families, carers, and other professionals to enable self‑management, independence, and well‑being in children’s daily lives.

You will be based at one of our Surrey-wide office hubs, with the flexibility of hybrid working to support your professional and personal needs.

Main Responsibilities

• Carrying out high‑quality School Based Assessments, as part of a Multi‑Disciplinary Team (MDT) for children and young people
• Assess and provide tailored advice and interventions for children with diverse needs.
• Develop and implement individualised treatment plans in collaboration with families and carers.
• Recommend and support the use of specialist equipment for home and school settings.
• Liaise with professionals across health, education, social care, and voluntary sectors to ensure comprehensive care.
• Provide sensitive and effective communication with children and their families, adapting to their needs and circumstances.
• Contribute to team performance targets and participate in supervision, training, and team meetings.
• Assist with prioritising treatment goals for children with complex needs or terminal illnesses, ensuring appropriate discharge planning and referrals.

The Ideal Candidate

• Degree/Diploma in Occupational Therapy
• HCPC registration
• Knowledge or training in ASD strategies/interventions (e.g. PECS, SCERTS, ADOS)
• Evidence of post‑graduate training or equivalent experience in:
  • Child development
  • ASD, ADHD, neurodevelopmental conditions
• Experience working with children in a similar paediatric setting
• Confidence in using a variety of assessments and treatment approaches

Desirable

• Membership of BAOT
• Membership of a Special Interest Group
• Clinical Educator qualification
• Experience delivering community‑based children’s OT services
