Job summary

HCRG Care Group seeks a Band 5 Occupational Therapist to deliver high-quality OT assessments, interventions and support to children within the Children’s Community Health Team. You will work with families and carers to enable independence and wellbeing in daily life.

You will join a multidisciplinary team, with hybrid working from Surrey-wide office hubs, contributing to service improvements and professional development opportunities.

Qualifications

• Registered HCPC with an Occupational Therapy qualification.
• Experience working with paediatric populations and neurodevelopmental conditions.
• Knowledge of ASD strategies/interventions (e.g. PECS, SCERTS, ADOS).

Responsibilities

• Carry out high-quality School Based Assessments as part of a MDT.
• Assess and provide tailored advice and interventions for children with diverse needs.
• Develop and implement individualised treatment plans with families and carers.
• Recommend and support the use of specialist equipment for home and school settings.
• Liaise with health, education, social care and voluntary sectors for integrated care.
• Communicate effectively with children and families, adapting to needs.
• Contribute to team targets and participate in supervision and team meetings.
• Prioritise treatment goals for complex needs and ensure discharge planning.

As a Band 5 Occupational Therapist, you will play a vital role in a multidisciplinary team, supporting children with a range of developmental and performance challenges.

You’ll work in partnership with families, carers, and other professionals to enable self-management, independence, and well-being in children’s daily lives.

You will be based at one of our Surrey-wide office hubs, with the flexibility of hybrid working to support your professional and personal needs.

Main Responsibilities

• Carrying out high-quality School Based Assessments, as part of a Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) for children and young people
• Assess and provide tailored advice and interventions for children with diverse needs.
• Develop and implement individualised treatment plans in collaboration with families and carers.
• Recommend and support the use of specialist equipment for home and school settings.
• Liaise with professionals across health, education, social care, and voluntary sectors to ensure comprehensive care.
• Provide sensitive and effective communication with children and their families, adapting to their needs and circumstances .
• Contribute to team performance targets and participate in supervision, training, and team meetings.
• Assist with prioritising treatment goals for children with complex needs or terminal illnesses, ensuring appropriate discharge planning and referrals

The Ideal Candidate

• Degree/Diploma in Occupational Therapy
• HCPC registration
• Knowledge or training in ASD strategies/interventions (e.g. PECS, SCERTS, ADOS)
• Evidence of post-graduate training or equivalent experience in:
  • Child development
  • ASD, ADHD, neurodevelopmental conditions
• Experience working with children in a similar paediatric setting
• Confidence in using a variety of assessments and treatment approaches
• Membership of BAOT
• Membership of a Special Interest Group
