Overview
To perform clerical, technical and scientific work relating to the laboratory in a professional and competent manner, whilst being supervised by a professionally qualified member of staff at a hub pathology site.
Responsibilities
- Undertake simple pathology investigations.
- Report factual data and information.
- Package samples for onward transport in a safe and timely manner.
- Monitor and evaluate the movement of laboratory specimens, blood and tissues.
- Support point of care testing.
- Support blood transfusion and Haemobank management.
- Deal with all patients, referring clinician and consultant requests for information promptly and efficiently.
- Assist with research and development.
- Operate instrumentation for measuring pathology analytes.
- Maintain communication with people on routine pathology issues.
- Develop own personal development.
- Monitor and maintain health and safety and security for self and others.
- Contribute to the implementation of services.
- Ensure own actions promote quality.
- Promote people\'s equality, diversity and rights.
- Acknowledge the risk of Healthcare Associated Infections (HCAI) and understand own responsibility as agreed with line manager in the prevention and control of HCAI.

Qualifications and training
- GCSEs (or equivalent) including a science subject
Experience
- Experience of scientific laboratory functions
- Experience of reporting scientific results
- Experience of working to explicit instructions
- Experience of working in an independent sector medical laboratory
Knowledge and technical ability
- Understands a range of routine and non-routine work procedures, requiring base level practical and keyboard skills
- Possess equipment and medical devices competence
- Ability to check and calibrate equipment
- Possess the mandatory training requirements for role including infection control and health and safety competencies
- Knowledge of accountable practice
- Data processing
- Ability to report scientific results
- Continuing professional development in laboratory specialities
- Numerical skills
- Trained on MS Office and other relevant packages e.g. scientific reporting systems
- English language to IELTS 7.0
- Possess simple troubleshooting processes
- Can commission new equipment
- Ability to train others
- Maintained interest in scientific subjects
