Job summary

Orders of St. John Care Trust, at Athelstan House in Malmesbury, is recruiting a Kitchen Assistant to join the catering team. You will help prepare meals and beverages for residents in a warm, home-like environment.

Bank hours cover annual leave and sickness, with shifts from 7:30am to 5:30pm in a modern care home that supports 80 residents. Training will be provided to develop culinary and hygiene skills in a not-for-profit setting.

Qualifications

• No prior formal catering experience required; training will be provided.
• A Basic Food Hygiene Certificate is preferred.
• Good communication and a positive, can-do attitude are important.

Responsibilities

• Prepare meals, snacks and drinks for residents.
• Maintain high kitchen hygiene and safety standards.
• Work as part of a friendly catering team to support residents’ mealtimes.

The light and spacious reception area, which greets you as you enter Athelstan House, is reflected throughout in comfortable and homely living areas. The home accommodates 80 beds.

Contracted hours: Bank hours to cover annual leave and sickness

Shift pattern: 7:30am to 5:30pm

ABOUT THE ROLE

We’re currently recruiting for a Kitchen Assistant to join our passionate, hard-working and friendly catering team, to create delicious meals, snacks and drinks for our residents. You’ll get to know our residents, understand their likes and dislikes so that mealtimes are always a highlight of their day

Located on the outskirts of the historic medieval market town of Malmesbury, Athelstan House is a purpose-built home surrounded by a large landscaped garden. Athelstan House offers compassionate, individualised residential, nursing, dementia, respite, intermediate and day care for up to 80 residents in a modern, comfortable environment.

ABOUT YOU

You don’t need to have previous formal catering experience, as we’ll give you the training you need, although it would be helpful if you hold a Basic Food Hygiene Certificate. What we’re looking for is someone who is keen on cooking and takes pride in kitchen hygiene standards. You’ll have a positive can-do approach, with good communication skills and you’ll be passionate about ensuring our residents receive the best service possible.

You’ll be confident in engaging with our elderly residents to understand their individual needs and enjoy being part of the wider team in the home.
