To assist registered nurses in delivering evidence-based care to patients/clients, working in partnership with other healthcare professionals, patients, their families, and carers.
Deliver patient care as documented in the nursing care plan. Carry out a wide range of duties under the supervision of a qualified practitioner for the duration of the shift.
Assist registered nurses in providing holistic patient care, ensuring dignity and equality are maintained at all times.
Ensure the principles of the fundamentals of care are incorporated into daily practice to provide high-quality service for patients and clients.
Assist patients in maintaining their hygiene and personal appearance.
Perform duties within the plan of care delegated by a qualified practitioner, only for tasks for which the assistant has relevant training and assessment.
Prepare ward/clinical areas for receiving patients by ensuring they are clean and tidy; assist in maintaining standards and report any untidiness or clutter.
Assist in the admission of new patients by preparing the bed area, welcoming the patient, directing them to their bed or other areas, and showing them around the ward.
Complete patient menu cards, involving patients in the process and considering any dietary instructions provided by a qualified nurse.
Participate in protected mealtimes by ensuring patients receive their meals and beverages in a timely and safe manner, and prepare the bed area accordingly.
