Queensway Hospital, part of the specialist Ellern Mede Group, is looking for healthcare assistantsto join the team. We provide high-quality, compassionate inpatient care for adults with complex and acute mental health needs.

As a Healthcare Assistant (HCA) on the Queensway Ward, you will work closely with our clinical and nursing teams to deliver high-quality, person-centred care to patients with significant emotional, behavioural, or relational risk. This is a challenging yet deeply rewarding role where you will play an active part in our patients’ recovery journeys.

Main duties of the job

Key responsibilities

Provide high-quality support with daily living activities (e.g. personal care, meals, hygiene).

Build therapeutic, trust-based relationships with individuals who have experienced significant trauma.

Work under the supervision of a named nurse to implement and contribute to patient care plans.

Use de-escalation techniques and participate in safe interventions including physical restraint when necessary.

Escort patients to appointments and community activities, ensuring safety and dignity at all times.

Maintain accurate clinical documentation (e.g., vital signs, intake/output, incident reports).

Uphold a safe and clean environment, supporting infection control and safeguarding practices.

Contribute to the structured therapeutic programme of the ward including facilitating groups.

Uphold patient dignity, confidentiality, and professional boundaries at all times.

About us

The Queensway Complex Care Ward, based at our Moorgate hospital in Rotherham, is a recovery-focused service supporting adults with complex and continuing mental health needs, especially those who cannot be effectively supported in traditional mental health settings.

We provide trauma-informed, relational, and autism-informed care, including diagnostic assessments (e.g., ADOS, ADI-R), in a psychologically safe and therapeutically structured environment. All care plans are bespoke, developed in close collaboration with commissioners and tailored to individual clinical complexity and risk.

  • English and Maths GCSE
  • A degree (or working toward) in Psychology, Health & Social Care, or a related discipline
Experience
  • Demonstration of working in healthcare care or with young people
  • The post holder needs to be capable of engaging with, and relating to, young people in a manner that recognises the responsibilities of the caring role.
