The designation of Environmental Services Officer applies to a self-motivatedmember of the workforce. Their duties are to ensure that day-to-day handlingand disposal of waste is in accordance with approved practices. TheEnvironmental Services Officer will be employed to cover any post on anyshift in the team. Collecting waste and or laundry from areas around thehospital and transport it to the Trust's Waste Transfer Stations or wastestorage points. They will join an integrated team responsible for all waste and laundry collection/storage and external litter collection together with any other environmental service as determined by the Environmental ServicesManager.
All Environmental Services Officers in the Capital Planning and EstatesManagement Department will form part of an integrated team whose role is to provide the best possible service to the Trust. Environmental Services Officers will have both group and individual responsibilities for defined aspects of the service but each will ensure their contribution is beneficial to other departments within the Trust, as well as the Capital Planning and Estates Management Department, so as to fulfil the Trust's overall objectives.

Based on the above job definition a member of Environmental Services must have the ability to use initiative and fulfil with total commitment, versatility and flexibility, a requirement to: -
1. Collect all hospital waste and laundry in accordance with the schedulesset by the Environmental Services Manager.2. Segregate, transport and process specific categories of waste asdictated by the Trusts Policy for the Management of Waste.3. To operate the Trusts electric vehicles, bulk waste compactionmachines and road sweeper.4. To ensure that all aspects of the Waste Licence Conditions areadhered to.5. Place specific categories of waste in the appropriate skip for off sitedisposal or recycling, as indicated by the Environmental ServicesManager.
